Κατά τη διάρκεια του Β ‘Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, μια νεαρή γερμανική γυναίκα χωρίζεται από την οικογένειά της και φυλακίζεται από τους Ναζί.Αφού απελευθερωθεί ερωτεύεται και παντρεύεται έναν Γερμανό αξιωματικό.Όταν το Βερολίνο πέφτει στους Ρώσους και ο σύζυγός της σκότωσε, φεύγει στην Αμερική, μεταφέροντας το αγέννητο παιδί του, χωρίς να παραιτείται από την ελπίδα ότι θα βρει την οικογένειά της, δεμένη από το δαχτυλίδι της μητέρας της.
